I spent about three weeks in Albania. I mostly stayed in the North and coastal parts of the country. Durres, Tirane, and Shkodër - and then northeast to hike through the Accursed Mountains. From Albania, I then made my way in to Kosovo.
For US Citizens you can travel to Albania for tourist purposes for up to one year.
I took buses for the most part. Hitching a rideshare is easy enough if in more rural areas. It seems at least typical to give some money for gasoline/petrol even if you are proper hitching.
